LAGOS, NIGERIA — Media personality and self-styled relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has issued a public apology to her audience while expressing deep grief over the death of her nine-year-old son, Bryan, who passed away in June 2026.
Speaking in an emotional video posted to her official social media handles following her release from custody in late October 2026, the broadcaster admitted to past indiscretions, careless statements, and insensitive online conduct, asking the public for forgiveness and a fresh start.
The apology follows a period of family tragedy for the media personality, whose son, nicknamed “Dum Dum,” suffered a fatal asthma attack on June 8, 2026, while she was remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos State over pending legal proceedings.
In her statement, Okoro acknowledged that her past controversies and public commentary on emotional subjects were made without experiencing the reality of deep personal grief. She described herself as “broken, confused, and exhausted,” drawing a parallel between her return to public life and the biblical story of the prodigal son.
Addressing her late son directly in the broadcast, Okoro expressed guilt over her absence during his final moments, apologising for failing to be by his side due to her detention. She further disclosed that her immediate family remains in deep mourning, noting that she and her mother have struggled to conceal their grief from each other while attempting to cope with the loss.
Okoro’s release on bail in late October 2026 marked her first public appearance since her arrest and subsequent detention, during which she was unable to perfect her bail conditions prior to her son’s sudden death.
Legal proceedings surrounding her ongoing court case remain active before the Federal High Court.
