RABAT, MOROCCO — Nigeria’s U-17 national women’s football team, the Flamingos, made history on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after securing a sensational 3-1 victory over South American giants Brazil to qualify for their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final.
The high-stakes semi-final clash at the Mohammed VI Football Complex saw the tactical and physically resilient Nigerian side dismantle the Brazilian defense.
The Flamingos opened their account following sustained pressure, establishing control over the encounter. Standout attacker Awawu Bashiru delivered a stellar performance with a decisive brace, while teammate Queen Joseph added her name to the scoresheet to seal the 3-1 triumph over the South Americans.
The landmark victory makes the Flamingos the first African team to ever advance to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final, surpassing their previous tournament best of a bronze medal achieved at the 2022 edition in India.
Head coach Bankole Olowookere’s side will now compete in the final on Saturday, November 7, 2026, aiming to claim the ultimate crown.
