Legal proceedings against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to serve as Director-General of the unrecognized Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), came to an abrupt halt at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Presiding judge Justice Mohammed Garba Umar officially struck out the eight counts faced by the defendant following a directive from federal prosecutors to withdraw the matter.
The abrupt turn of events followed a formal disclosure by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN.
He revealed that an internal review ordered by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) exposed significant jurisdictional shortcomings in the initial charges framed by the Nigeria Police Force.
Specifically, the Justice Ministry determined that allegations centering on document falsification and the creation of an unauthorized agency belong under the trial jurisdiction of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), rather than the Federal High Court. To rectify the venue error, federal authorities prepared a replacement charge sheet at the FCT High Court, setting the stage to re-arraign Adeyemi in the proper forum.
Representing Adeyemi, defense attorney Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, raised no objections to the government’s application to terminate the current suit. With no opposition from the defense team, Justice Umar issued the order striking out the case.
Adeyemi had been facing trial alongside several other named individuals on counts related to unlawful assembly, conspiracy, and document forgery.
