Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has issued a stern warning against criminality in the state, maintaining that absolute justice will be enforced without exception, even if it implicates members of his own family.
The state chief executive delivered this hardline stance on Monday in the capital during an official renunciation event. More than 500 individuals affiliated with various underground fraternities formally abandoned their groups, receiving official state pardons facilitated by the Edo State Special Security Squad (ESSS)
Governor Okpebholo asserted that federal backing from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security forces bolsters his administration’s ongoing offensive against abduction and gang violence.
According to the governor, the presidency strongly supports the current push to clean up the region.
Emphasizing his constitutional duty to safeguard citizens, Okpebholo stated that no individual would enjoy immunity, noting that he would not shield anyone—not even his biological child—if found linked to criminal syndicates.
Earlier proceedings featured remarks from ESSSS Coordinator Noah Idemudia, who credited strong political backing for the security unit’s recent operational successes in curbing local crime rates.
Reinforcing the administration’s message, Edo State Commissioner of Police Patrick Daaor cautioned the pardoned youth against returning to illicit activities.
Drawing from scripture, he described gang involvement as a deceptive path ending in tragedy and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the state’s olive branch to rebuild their lives positively.
