Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly backed President Bola Tinubu’s aggressive fiscal policies, declaring that the country was on the brink of total financial failure before the current administration took charge.
Shettima called on citizens to show patience and appreciation for the President’s actions, which he credits with stabilizing a failing economy.
After a consultative meeting at Tinubu’s Lagos home, the Vice President explained that leadership remained seamless during the President’s recent time overseas.
He noted that modern technology allowed for constant communication and daily operational updates. According to the Vice President, immediate interventions like ending the petrol subsidy and merging the multiple currency exchange rates were vital to preventing a complete national breakdown.
He highlighted the dire situation the administration inherited, revealing that Nigeria’s foreign reserves had plummeted to a critical $3.9 billion—an amount insufficient to cover even a single month of petroleum imports.
Shettima praised Tinubu’s political willpower to execute these difficult but necessary economic corrections.
