Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has assured the nation that the Nigeria Police Force will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and neutrality before, during, and after the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja following the official launch of the book “The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force”—authored by 96-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga—the police chief promised that the force’s conduct during the general elections will earn the respect and pride of all Nigerians.
IGP Disu explained that the force recently concluded a comprehensive strategic review conference involving Commissioners of Police and senior officers nationwide. The review focused on analyzing recent off-cycle elections to identify institutional strengths and areas needing operational refinement.
“We have brought all these experiences together—where we did well and where we did not do well—so that we can perform better in this big election that everybody is looking forward to. I give you my word: Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make Nigerians proud,” IGP Disu declared.
Highlighting the historical significance of the book launch, the IGP commended Dame Okuyiga—one of Nigeria’s pioneer female police officers who enlisted in 1955—for documenting her ground-breaking experiences.
He revealed that the Nigeria Police Force will procure copies of the book for all police training institutions across the country to inspire serving officers and preserve institutional memory.
