AKURE — A sharp political dispute has emerged between National Democratic Coalition (NDC) House of Representatives candidate Olumuyiwa Adeyeri and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Ondo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeyeri urged the electoral body to launch an immediate investigation following complaints from residents in Iwaro-Oka, Akoko South-West Local Government Area, who claimed they were unable to locate or collect their printed cards. The parliamentary hopeful warned that uncollected cards risk disenfranchising voters and eroding public confidence in the electoral process.
However, INEC strongly dismissed the claims as misleading. In an official statement issued in Akure, the commission assured the public that all PVCs received for registered voters in Ondo State are fully accounted for, with zero cards missing from its inventory.
Under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, INEC explained that cards currently unavailable at collection centers belong to registrants whose cards are still being processed or printed at national headquarters.
The commission emphasized that ward-level collection formally concluded on Thursday, October 15, with distribution transitioning to INEC local government offices across all 18 LGAs starting Friday, October 16.
“Nothing will determine the winner of any election in Ondo State other than the votes of the people,” Dr. Agboke stated, reiterating that valid physical PVCs remain the sole requirement for voting.
