The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially inaugurated a multi-agency Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) to commence early strategic preparations for the 2027 general elections, targeting a complete elimination of operational bottlenecks and late arrival of election materials.
The inauguration, which took place at the commission’s national headquarters in Abuja, was led by the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, who named National Electoral Commissioner, Rear Admiral Jamilu Saddiq Malafa (retd.), as chairperson of the committee.
The multi-agency body brings together representatives from transport unions, security agencies, financial institutions, and maritime and aviation authorities. Stakeholders in attendance included the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Customs Service, alongside the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Addressing stakeholders during the inaugural session, Prof. Amupitan emphasized that electoral preparations are a marathon that requires early operational planning to safeguard democratic integrity, warning that no eligible Nigerian citizen should be disenfranchised due to supply chain failures or distribution delays on election day.
A major priority for the committee focuses on addressing logistics deployment across security-challenged zones and difficult geographical terrains—particularly riverine communities across the South-South region that depend on specialized maritime transport for the movement of electoral officers and sensitive materials.
Underscoring the strategic objectives of the assignment, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan stated:
“Today’s inauguration marks a proactive step in ensuring that the 2027 general election is defined by seamless execution and operational excellence. The committee will develop a strategic logistics plan informed by lessons from previous elections, with a focus on addressing operational weaknesses and preventing delays in the deployment of electoral materials.”
With the strategic deployment committee officially inaugurated, INEC aims to finalize its operational frameworks well ahead of the statutory electoral timetable to guarantee prompt voting across all polling units nationwide.
