AKURE — The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, charged legal practitioners across Nigeria to uphold justice, protect fundamental human rights, and enforce accountability, emphasizing that no individual or institution remains above the law.
Fagbemi delivered the charge in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, during the official commissioning of the newly constructed Kofo Salam-Alada Bar and Library Centre, established by the Ikare-Akoko branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Addressing legal practitioners, traditional rulers, and judicial stakeholders, the Minister of Justice stressed that the legal profession carries a constitutional responsibility to ensure equal justice regardless of wealth, religion, or political affiliation.
“No individual or institution should be above the law, and everyone should be under the law to be protected,” Fagbemi declared. “The responsibilities of lawyers extend far beyond legal expertise to protecting individual rights, promoting peaceful coexistence, and ensuring that justice remains fair, inclusive, and accessible to all.”
The AGF urged the NBA branch to utilize the facility as a hub for continuous legal education, pro-bono community representation, and ethical practice. He praised the facilitator, Kofo Salam-Alada, whose mentees and associates funded the library to provide young legal practitioners with access to research materials.
Former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly and pioneer Chairman of the NBA Ikare-Akoko branch, Rt. Hon. Taofeeq Abdulsalam, commended the initiative, noting that expanding physical legal infrastructure strengthens grass-root access to justice across the South-West region.
