A magistrate court in Kaduna State has ordered the remand of Mubarak Abdullahi, a vocal supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly distributing a forged document attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, was remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna on the orders of Chief Magistrate Court No. 10, located in Kabala Doki. The court directive followed his preliminary appearance over accusations of spreading false information in cyberspace.
The prosecution stems from Abdullahi’s arrest by security operatives on September 28, after he allegedly posted a counterfeit letter on his personal Facebook page. The document, which purported to be an official communication from President Tinubu addressed to the President of the United States, was shared alongside the caption “ATIKU IS COMING.”
During interrogation by DSS investigators, the suspect admitted to circulating the fabricated correspondence and offered an apology for his conduct. However, law enforcement officials proceeded with judicial action, citing the severity of the offense under national cybercrime and defamation frameworks.
To pursue full prosecution, the secret police filed a three-count charge encompassing cybercrime and criminal defamation at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. A definitive date for his formal arraignment before the federal bench remains to be scheduled.
Security analysts view the enforcement action as a signal of the DSS’s heightened surveillance and digital forensics capabilities aimed at tracking and prosecuting individuals involved in generating or distributing deceptive content online.
