ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Director-General of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Campaign Council, Mallam Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has cautioned against political intimidation ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the opposition party has instituted internal measures to counter any illegal mobilization on election day.
Speaking during a live broadcast interview, Abdulkarim stated that while the NDC remains committed to a peaceful democratic process, it will not allow voters or party agents to be intimidated at polling units across the country.
Responding to concerns regarding election security and potential disruption by opposition actors, the campaign director refrained from detailing the party’s operational protocols, citing broadcast regulatory guidelines set by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
”If the ruling party are mobilizing thugs on Election Day, we already have our own arrangements in place, which I cannot disclose on air, because I don’t want the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to shut your station down,” Abdulkarim noted.
The statement comes amidst heightened political activities following the unveiling of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, with civil society organizations continuing to urge political actors across all parties to avoid incendiary rhetoric and prioritize peaceful electoral engagement.
