Atiku Blames APC, Okpebholo For Attack On Comedian Porkupyne, Petitions Amnesty International

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the brutal attack on popular Benin-based comedian Osagie Daniel Idedia, widely known as Porkupyne (MC Porcupine), alleging that the assault was politically motivated.

In a sharp reaction issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Atiku directly held President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership responsible for creating a climate of political intimidation and impunity.

Atiku claimed that the entertainer was targeted in Benin City solely because he supports opposition politics and has consistently demanded good governance and accountability in Edo State.

”Governor Okpebholo must explain what happened to Porkupyne, stop hiding behind official silence, and prove that his government is not shielding political thugs,” Atiku stated. “President Tinubu and the APC must stop the brutalisation of my supporters and end the dictatorial arrogance of treating loyal opposition as enemies of the state.”

Urging law enforcement agencies to uncover the masterminds behind the attack, the former presidential candidate emphasized that no Nigerian should face violence for exercising their constitutional right to political association or dissenting views.

”The police must urgently investigate allegations of political involvement, identify the perpetrators, and expose whoever sponsored or facilitated this cowardly attack, because no political party has the right to beat, maim, or terrorise its way to power,” he added.

Atiku also disclosed that he has formally petitioned Amnesty International and foreign diplomatic missions in Nigeria, calling on them to closely monitor the treatment of opposition figures and document acts of political violence as the country builds up toward the 2027 general elections.
