ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Thursday depart Abuja for Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to perform the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) and offer special prayers for the peace, security, and economic stability of Nigeria.
The announcement was contained in an official press statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, October 28, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, the visit provides the nation’s leader with an avenue for spiritual reflection and devotion amidst pressing national demands.
“The visit gives the President an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion, and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and continued progress,” Onanuga stated.
He added that while in the holy city, the President will undertake all religious rites connected to the lesser pilgrimage, “seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.”
Before taking off from the nation’s capital on Thursday, President Tinubu is scheduled to commission newly acquired operational equipment for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The brief ceremony will take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The Presidency confirmed that President Tinubu will complete the religious exercise in Saudi Arabia and return to Nigeria next week.
