ADO-EKITI, NIGERIA — African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, is currently receiving medical treatment at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti following a violent security incident at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of the Ekiti State capital on Friday.
While initial online reports claimed the political activist was abducted by political thugs, the Ekiti State Police Command refuted the abduction claims, clarifying that police operatives swiftly intervened after receiving emergency calls regarding an physical altercation at the venue.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, police officers rescued Sowore from the scene after he sustained injuries.
The command added that the State Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the clash and apprehend all culpable individuals.
However, Sowore and his campaign organization have strongly rejected the police account of a routine restaurant altercation.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Sowore insisted he was targeted in a coordinated violent assault sponsored by state-linked operatives and political thugs, calling on security authorities to ensure an uncompromised probe into the assault on his entourage.
