BENIN CITY — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the establishment of a new Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Benin City aimed at decongesting the city center, expanding housing options, and attracting private investments into the state.
The Managing Director of the Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), Assoc. Prof. Innocent Ehiaguina Bello, disclosed the development, stating that the proposed New GRA will relieve residential pressure on the existing city center through modern urban planning and sound land administration.
According to EDOGIS, the master layout for the new estate will incorporate modern infrastructure, including paved access roads, structured drainage systems, stable electricity supply, central water reticulation, telecommunications corridors, and other essential public amenities.
”The project will be handled with professionalism, transparency, and technical precision,” Bello noted, adding that sustainable urban development and transparent land allocation will guide the execution.
Bello further explained that the scheme will accommodate diverse housing options to cater to various income groups, while legal land documentation and automated revenue collection will boost government revenue and prevent land grab disputes.
The state government urged traditional institutions, community landholders, media organizations, and real estate developers to collaborate with EDOGIS and adhere strictly to state land regulations.
