Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has raised serious concerns over recent administrative postings at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), questioning the appointment of two officials to oversee critical operations ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Atiku challenged the electoral body to demonstrate neutrality following the assignment of Mrs. Oluyemi Titilayo Adeyemi-Showunmi to head the Electoral Operations and Voter Registry Department, and Dr. Lawrence Bayode to lead the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department.
In a statement issued by his media office, the opposition leader emphasized that the ICT and electoral operations departments form the engine room of national elections.
Atiku urged the commission to publish the selection criteria and confirm that due process, federal character, and professional merit were strictly observed in the postings without political influence or regional bias.
Beyond the internal personnel redeployments, the ADC flagbearer called on INEC to publicly identify private vendors awarded sensitive contracts for printing election materials and ballot assets.
He alleged that a significant portion of sensitive voting inventory had been allocated to private entities, urging both the commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide full public disclosures on procurement processes and security safeguards to build public trust.
Emphasizing that voters will strictly defend the integrity of their votes in 2027, Atiku declared that the electoral umpire must offer verifiable accountability rather than verbal assurances.
He noted that the African Democratic Congress, alongside domestic and international observers, will maintain close surveillance on all administrative and operational decisions by INEC to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible polling process.
