ABUJA — The former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has issued a stern warning to supporters of Peter Obi—popularly known as the “Obidients”—against targeting him with online attacks, hinting that he possesses potentially damaging revelations regarding their past political alliance.
Speaking during a recent media appearance, Baba-Ahmed cautioned Obi’s loyalists that he would not tolerate aggressive pushback over his political commentary, emphasizing that he retains the right to offer independent assessments of Nigeria’s opposition landscape without harassment.
The warning comes amid ongoing debates regarding political realignments and joint tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections. Baba-Ahmed addressed the growing friction between political camps following Peter Obi’s transition to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where Obi emerged as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Responding to hostile reactions from Obi’s base over his candid remarks on past campaign dynamics, Baba-Ahmed warned critics that pushing him further could force him to disclose uncomfortable facts surrounding their 2023 presidential ticket and subsequent negotiations.
”They shouldn’t start that nonsense with me that they will start attacking me because I have more damaging things to say,” Baba-Ahmed declared. He clarified that while he maintains personal respect for his former running mate, his political actions and public principles are entirely independent.
He condemned the quick inclination of some supporters to launch coordinated attacks against alternative viewpoints, describing such hostility as detrimental to broader opposition cooperation and democratic discourse.
The public clash underscores expanding strategic divisions within opposition movements as political leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. While Datti Baba-Ahmed continues to challenge aggressive online commentary, Obi’s campaign stakeholders have urged opposition factions to avoid internal distraction and remain focused on addressing economic hardship, institutional governance, and public welfare across the country.
