The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has generated fierce political backlash following hostile public remarks directed at former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Speaking during a campaign engagement on Saturday, the ruling party executive expressed deep personal disdain for the opposition leader, declaring that he would physically confront him if they ever crossed paths.
In his word; ”As for Obi, I hate him, and I maintain that. If I see him, I will spit in his face and bite his nose. I will pretend that I want to tell him something, then bite his ear and chew it. Take it like that. I hate him,” Tenebe asserted.
The state party chief defended his fierce posture toward opposition figures, arguing that politicians criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration deserve stern public resistance. He accused the former Anambra State governor of political insincerity, questioning the viability of his alliances with other prominent political actors across regions.
Tenebe also took aim at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other key opposition voices, threatening to publicly humiliate any leader who continuously attacks the federal government’s economic policies.
The aggressive outburst comes shortly after earlier public scrutiny over Tenebe’s fiery rhetoric. In previous defenses, the APC chairman maintained that his extreme statements were meant as political metaphors rather than direct calls for actual physical violence.
The latest remarks have triggered widespread condemnation from political analysts, civil rights advocacy groups, and citizens across political lines. Neither Peter Obi nor his official media team have released a formal response to Tenebe’s statements.
