President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved the long-awaited development of the Ibom Deep-Sea Port and confirmed full international status for the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The President announced the approvals in Uyo during an official working visit to inaugurate a series of landmark infrastructure projects completed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.

The executive clearances came in direct response to requests presented by Governor Eno during a reception organized in the President’s honor at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Addressing leaders, political stakeholders, and residents, President Tinubu emphasized that federal backing for strategic coastal and maritime assets is essential to unlocking inclusive economic growth and commercial expansion across the South-South region.

He noted that the Ibom Deep-Sea Port will serve as a major transshipment hub, driving trade diversification, maritime logistics, and industrialization. Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sub-national collaboration, the President commended Governor Eno for sustaining governance continuity and ensuring that key developmental blueprints yield practical economic value for the people.

The presidential visit coincided with the official commissioning of several world-class aviation and road projects designed to boost regional trade and tourism.

Key projects commissioned at the Victor Attah International Airport include the new state-of-the-art International Terminal Building, the International Airport Hospital, and the Ibom Aviation Village.

President Tinubu also inaugurated major road networks, including the Airport–Okopedi Road connecting Nsit Atai and Okobo Local Government Areas, the Ring Road 3 project linking Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo, the AKWA-GIS Office Complex, and the Command and Control Centre.

Governor Umo Eno expressed deep gratitude to the Federal Government for honoring the aspirations of the people of Akwa Ibom State. State officials noted that securing presidential approval for the deep-sea port and international flight operations will attract significant direct foreign investment, generate thousands of jobs, and position the state as a prime maritime and aviation entry point in the Niger Delta.

The approvals mark a historic milestone in regional infrastructure expansion, setting a clear trajectory for sustainable economic transformation across the South-South.
