The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid a courtesy visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, pledging enhanced cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the state government to maintain public safety.
The visit marked a symbolic homecoming for IGP Disu, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State during a period of intense local political friction.
During the reception, Governor Fubara commended IGP Disu for maintaining professionalism and political neutrality during his tenure as CP in the state, describing his elevation to the top position of the Nigeria Police Force as a well-deserved reward for meritorious service.
”While he was here as Commissioner of Police, it was at the peak of a crisis, but I can tell you that he did his work, not minding the situation,” Governor Fubara stated.
“He tried as much as he could to balance all areas. I want to thank you for serving us well, and that service is what propelled you to this very exalted position today.”
Addressing the governor, IGP Disu explained that his visit was aimed at expressing appreciation to the government and people of Rivers State for their sustained support to the police command and other sister security agencies.
He emphasized that effective law enforcement relies heavily on state-level partnership. ”Without the cooperation of the state government, without the cooperation of the Governor, the job of policing will be very, very difficult,” IGP Disu noted.
The IGP added that he was also in Port Harcourt to attend the launch of a memoir authored by Dame Stella Obuoforibo Okuyiga, a 94-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police and one of the pioneering 20 policewomen in Nigeria.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed the readiness of the Rivers State Government to continuously assist the police force and other security apparatuses operating across the state to safeguard lives and property.
