Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a sharp criticism against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the unveiling of the All Progressives Congress (APC) expanded Presidential Campaign Council, describing the bloated list as a “crowded confession of fear.”
In a reaction released on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Atiku argued that the expansion of the campaign structure—which includes cross-party inclusions—demonstrates an administration increasingly desperate to shield itself behind political heavyweights rather than addressing economic hardship and governance issues.
Atiku noted that when initial criticisms greeted the campaign structure, President Tinubu had an opportunity to signal empathy toward struggling citizens.
Instead, he accused the President of compiling a longer list of politicians as human shields against public dissatisfaction. ”When the first list drew criticism, Tinubu had a chance to show that he understood the country’s anger.
Instead, he returned with an even longer list, reaching into other parties for more names. He is collecting politicians like shields against public judgment,” Atiku stated. ”On the ballot, there will contain no column for the size of a campaign council. Families face hunger, hardship, and fear every day. No crowd of politicians can stand between a President and his abysmal record,” he added.
The former Vice President affirmed that opposition alliances will present a streamlined, policy-focused alternative to voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
